When People Magazine publishes its yearly "Most Beautiful People" issue, the magazine spends a lot of time debating which star will land the coveted big cover photo. This year, it would have been Julia Roberts, who would be appearing on the “Most Beautiful” cover for the fourth time. But something happened between the cover decision and the magazine going to press: Sandra Bullock gave People an exclusive interview and photos revealing that she secretly adopted a baby boy in January.

It must have been chaos as the magazine tried to figure out a fix (they went with a "special double issue" to give both stories their due). While the "Most Beautiful People" issue -- and any cover featuring Roberts -- is a consistent hit at the newsstand, the Sandra Bullock story, with its element of surprise and uplifting message is a surefire mega-seller. So poor Julia -- who is currently promoting “Eat, Pray, Love” -- was relegated to a small photo in the top right corner of the cover while Sandra and baby Louis took center stage.

The famously down-to-earth Roberts most likely doesn't even mind the change of plans. In the interview accompanying her feature in the magazine, Roberts credits professionals for making her look good, and friend George Clooney praises her inner beauty, telling People: "There's a reason Julia is a timeless beauty, and it has nothing to do with her looks. It has everything to do with who she is.

Other stars chosen as this year's "Most Beautiful People" include "Avatar"'s Zoe Saldana, "Iron Man 2"'s Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Aniston
