Cartographica is designed f people who need to wk with geospatial data to create maps, analyze data, convert between fmats, and discover new infmation about your data and the wld in which it exists. As such, we have emphasized easy imptation, explation, analysis, and output in the design of Cartographica and hope that you find it powerful, yet fun to use and easy to exple.
Features

Cartographica if full of features to make it easy f your to exple, analyze and present your geospatial data. Here is just a sample of the facilities available in Cartographica. Features added enhanced f 1.2 are marked with .
Flexible File Impt
Cartographica has a wide range of data impt capabilities, nearly assuring that you can turn your data into maps. Bring in your geeferenced raster data (like thophotos and satellite imagery), your vect data from almost any source, even CSV text files. A me complete list of impted and expted fmats is available, including Personal Geodatabase.
Online Map Service Suppt
There's lots of good data available on the Internet. Getting data from a Web Map Server Web Feature Server into your map document is a snap. Just load up the area you're looking to cover and select the Map Server. Cartographica will do the rest, from matching the codinate system to testing the boundaries, to warping the graphics if necessary to meet your current CRS.
If you don't know where to start, just add a Live Map from Bing? Maps OpenStreetMap with one simple command.
Rapid Filtering
This is a Macintosh, and you'd expect fast filtering of data. With Cartographica, you get just that. Using the search box, you can filter on any column. With multi-variable searching and boolean operations you can exple your data even me effectively!
Sophisticated Layout
Cartographica provides sophisticated print layouts, including the ability to put multiple maps on the same page, overlay scale bars, compasses, and legends, keep them aside, and add text notations. Even have multiple copies of the same map on a page with different zoom levels, extents, and visible layers.
Flexible Styles
Styles define what layers should look like in a map. Easily put together a simple style based on fill and stroke cols, create a sophisticated style set f a layer allowing easy identification of features with different attributes. Along with your cols, add labels f features, including data from any column columns and on multiple lines if necessary.
Direct Editing
Need to define geometry f your map without exact codinates* Cartographica lets you create a new feature, edit an existing one with ease. Just double-click and move the control points. Styles and related infmation follow right along. Merge vect features into a single feature?consolidate roads GPS tracks, join polygons.
Image Geeferencing
New f 1.2 is the ability to geeference ( edit the geeferencing infmation f) imagery. Geeferencing can be done with a standard matrix, by adding changing Ground Control Points (GCPs). And when you're just starting to geeference an image, you can use our Fit Display button as a first approximation. You can control transparency while you move the image around warp it into place, so you can see just how things line up.
Undo Suppt
We believe that expling geospatial data should be risk-free. Why should you have to live with every change you make* Cartographica's ubiquitous undo capabilities means whatever changes you've just made... you can undo them... and then put them back.
Layer Transparency
Take advantage of the sophisticated graphics you love on the Macintosh by using transparency to see through one level of data to the next. It is, of course, adjustable on a per-layer ( per-feature basis when you are using complex styles). You can even make a raster layer transparent ( any part of it), in der to enhance visibility of your crucial data.
Simultaneous Data/Map Browsing
Look at your data and map at the same time. Zoom in and filter the map and the data view follows. Scroll around and select features in the data set and they are hilighted on the map. Visualize your data your way. Don't want to give up screen space f the data view* That's fine, just drag it shut, and then open it when you need it again.
Geocoding
Got addresses* Cartographica is the easiest way to put them in their place. WIth Bing? Geocoding suppt and our improved internal Geocoder, you have your choice of easy-to-configure online services, geocoding using your own data (especially useful if you want to look at histical infmation). Cartographica will take addresses from lists in text files, tables in databases, even your Macintosh Address Book.
GPS Suppt
If you need to load up field data from a variety of GPS devices, go no further than the File menu. Using the GPS impt modules tested over the last three years in our free LoadMyTracks software, we can impt waypoints, routes, and tracks directly from hundreds of devices, including those from: Garmin?, Magellan?, Lowrance?, Sony?, and others. And, if your device isn't directly suppted, it can impt the data using GPX files (the standard f GPS infmation).
Direct Database Access
Is your source data sted in a database* Cartographica can load data directly using ODBC (the standard f database exchange) and geocode it, join it to existing table data based on keys, just impt it as points with X and Y latitude and longitude. No me multi-step processes and complex multi-program impting.
Intelligent Projection Management
There's a lot of data available out there, but often each layer is coded with a codinate reference system that is specific to its producer's own needs. Cartographica understands that, but doesn't let that get in the way of making the data easy to use. Although you can change codinate systems in existing layers, we'll be just as happy to do the conversions behind the scenes (f raster as well as vect data) in der to make sure your layers match up. And, if we don't have the projection CRS built-in, you can add it yourself from another map by impting a CRS in Proj4 WKT fmat.

* WFS access is read only. No changes are saved to the server.
* WFS client retrieves too much data in some queries.

* Map Layout now has a command to synchronize with the primary document window
* Added suppt f Declared units in columns, which are set when Cartographica creates columns with known units (m,m^2,ft,ft^2) from Area and Distance operations
Enhanced Features
* Increased the limits on the number of open files substantially in der to reduce the liklihood of running out during nmal operations.
* When no internal projection infmation exists in an image file, a .PRJ file of the same base name will be used if available (compatibility with CartoMobile)
* New Synchronize With Map sets visible layers and zoom area to the same as the current map window cresponding to the source map
* Substantial perfmance improvement to Select By Legend Style (clicking on a style in the legend and having it select features in your map)
* Prevent selection of Non-string columns f string only values in Geocoder (Name, Type, Direction Prefix, Direction Suffix, City, State)
* Added interoperability with recent Garmin receivers that use the UserDataSync method
UI Changes
* Features do not deselect when clicked a second time in Edit Feature mode
* Features no longer "Jump" when they are moved in their entirety in Edit Feature mode
* Ellipsis are now added to legend descriptions that don't fit hizontally in the Legend box
* Selection and Layer infmation is now visible in the inspect windows
* Add/Edit features toolbar items are now appropriately disabled
Bug Fixes
* Fixed bugs in keyboard navigation in the vect edit that would result in inappropriate selections when navigating lines via option-arrow combinations.
* Fixed bug which would cause layers with sub-styles to show up in the second column if there wasn't enough height f all items to be visible.
* Fixed confusing Locate missing file text
* Fixed a small bug in Shapefile impter
* Fixed bug in inserting points in multi-part geometries that would occasionally result in points ending up in the wrong part
* Fixed bug that could result in bad upper-bounds when calculating Jenks Distributions with large numbers of values
* Fixed bug that resulted in Simplify Features only being able to simplify to integer radius values.
* Fixed bug which resulted in maps in a Map Layout window being changed after printing ( canceling printing)
