بالاخره اولین نسخه آزمایشی از ویندوز 8 منتشر شد. فعلا نسخه 32 بیتی منتشر شده است و هنوز نسخه 64 بیتی ارائه نشده است. این ویندوز به دلیل اینکه خیلی آزمایشی بوده و در اولین مراحل ساخت خود می باشد اثرات زیادی از ویندوز 7 را در خود دارد.



از تغییرات قابل توجه این ویندوز می توان به system-on-a-chip که به اختصار SOC نامیده می شود و همچنین mobile ARM processors اشاره کرد.



این نسخه M1‌ نام دارد که اولین نسخه این ویندوز می باشد و قرار است نسخه نهایی در سال 2012 عرضه شود.
